Practical experience in using machine learning models in applications; Experience in interdisciplinary collaborations and real-world applications is desirable.
PhD in machine learning, statistics, computer vision, natural language processing, signal processing, or optimization.
The Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) is a National Research Infrastructure jointly founded by EPFL and ETH Zurich and part of the ETH Domain. Its mandate is to support academic labs, hospitals, the industry and public sector stakeholders, including cantonal and federal administrations, through their entire data science journey, from the collection and management of data to machine learning, AI, and industrialization. With a large multidisciplinary team of professionals across three locations (Lausanne, Zurich, Villigen), the SDSC provides expertise and services to various domains, such as health and biomedical sciences, energy and sustainability, climate and environment, and large-scale scientific infrastructures.
For SDSC's Research team we are currently looking for a Senior Data Scientist. The Research team is responsible for research collaborations in the academic and public sector.
As a Senior Data Scientist in the Research team of SDSC, you will use your expertise in machine learning, statistical data science, computer vision, natural language processing, and signal processing to work closely with researchers, experts and collaborators from academia or the public sector in various fields such as health and biomedical sciences, climate and environment, energy and sustainability, physical and engineering sciences, and digital society. You will help identify how to analyze or model data to answer scientific questions or develop algorithms that perform challenging tasks automatically.
This involves actively exchanging with collaborators to understand project needs, translating them into data science terms, selecting effective approaches, implementing algorithms, performing evaluations with domain experts, releasing open-source code and documentation, writing research papers or reports, and communicating results.
