The Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental protection (HSE) Unit serves as CERN's expertise center on safety matters, supporting the Organization in implementing CERN's Safety Policy. You will join the Computing Support (CS) section of HSE's Transversal Services (TS) group, part of a dynamic team developing and supporting specialized software and systems such as web applications and databases related to the HSE Unit's activities. The team is also responsible for CERN's supervision, control, and data acquisition system for radiation and environmental protection.

Functions

As technical lead & software engineer, you will:

• Design and implement architecture of databases and web applications.
• Take technical lead in development projects, coordinating work across team and CERN stakeholders.
• Organize and provide support, maintenance, and operation for existing software and integrated commercial solutions.
• Investigate and resolve operational issues in collaboration with end-users and IT teams.
• Drive performance studies and optimization.
• Collaborate and share knowledge within and across teams.
• Communicate with end-users to translate needs into technical solutions.
• Promote and develop procedures and tools to improve software quality including CI and automated testing.
• Implement system changes to align with latest technology trends and standards.
• Mentor junior developers to support their professional growth.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent experience in Software Engineering/Computer Science or related field.

Experience:

• Extensive software development and maintenance experience with web applications including backend, frontend, and data management.
• Experience in database design.
• Experience with stakeholder management, user support, training, and requirements definition.
• Experience with software development lifecycle: unit testing, CI, version control, documentation.
• Experience in technical supervision of teammates.
• Knowledge of project management.

Technical Competencies:

• Proficient in programming languages and techniques: Java, Spring Boot, React, RESTful APIs, unit and integration testing.
• Designing user experiences and interfaces.
• Database/repository design with Oracle or equivalent and SQL.
• Software testing, diagnosis, and optimization.
• Software lifecycle tools and procedures including DevOps.
